From the Office
First day packets need to be turned into the office no later than Friday the 19th. If you did not receive a first-day packet please come get one from the office.
ASB Elections
ASB voting guides will be handed out to the student body today.
Voting will be conducted Wednesday, August 24, and the first ASB meeting (officers only) will be Thursday, August 25, during lunch. Bring your lunch in a to-go tray to Ms. Tucker's classroom.
Sidenote: We need a slogan for your Class of 2026 sign! Extra credit in English if your slogan wins. (Because coming up with puns is totally an ELA skill.)
We're the best, _________________, we're the Class of 2026!
Letterman Jackets
We have letterman jackets now available! Go here to purchase.
Homecoming
Sept. 30! We play the Butte Valley Bull Dogs. Submit themes to Ms. Tucker by Friday, Sept 2. Winner will get a free ASB T-Shirt.
Mental Health Day
Once a month, you can request a mental health day. Just ask your first period teacher, or talk directly to the office.
See something, say something. We are a team and need to help and support one another!
Binders: Don't forget to ensure you have a binder for this class. Let me know if you need one.
Backpacks: I do not have room for backpacks in this very small classroom. Please leave your backpack in your locker or outside the door of my classroom.
Note about the library: If you want to check out any books, just ask me!
Featured book of the month: Interior Chinatown by Charles Yu
The week's main objective: To get to know each other more and to learn about the writing process at the high school level.
Elections will be during English class Wednesday, August 24.
Before we get started, I want to get to know you a little better...

You can also use a written planner (copies are on the door).
You have the rest of the class to draft. Do not stress, just be honest and write what comes to mind. You will given credit for the assignment so long as you "give me something." We will continue to work on this through the week as an example of the writing process.
This "About Me" paragraph should include things like:
What school subjects are your favorite? What hobbies/activities do you enjoy?
What particular skills, talents, and knowledge do you have or are proud of?
What do you like learning about?
How big is your family, and do you have any siblings? Do you like them? ;)
What are your favorite foods, TV shows, movies, games, color, etc.?
Anything else you'd like Ms. Tucker to know about you?
Due Monday

The Writing Process: Today's Focus...
Intro to the Writing Process
Pull out your "About Me's" you worked on yesterday.
Re-read it and make any changes directly on your paper. Do not erase. Instead, scratch off, use characters like the ^ to insert something you want. Reference the Revising & Editing Checklist.
What else can you add? Like a moment that stands out to you in dealing with COVID-19? Your least favorite part about dealing with the pandemic or maybe something good that somehow came out of it? A story of something that happened over summer or your favorite part of summer. Shoot for 2 meaty paragraphs.
The Red Pen: Pass your document around for peer review to at least three people.
